Spotlight on Barre at Peak

Barre at Peak is a total body, low-impact, and medium to high-intensity workout in under 1 hour. But what does that actually mean? Let’s break it down.

Barre at Peak is a unique class that combines strength-building and conditioning exercises of pilates, yoga, and functional, weight and training. In these classes, we work hard for 35 minutes (10 minutes of stretching) on our core, upper body (triceps, biceps, shoulders, back) and lower body (quadriceps, glutes, adductors, calves), and… more core.

Barre at Peak runs every Thursday at 6:15 to 7:00pm. Book a class today.

Many barre classes you’ll come across these days are very different from what you’d find at a ballet studio. Barre at Peak incorporates moves and techniques inspired by ballet, yoga, and pilates with light handheld weights.

A typical Barre at Peak class begins with a gentle warm-up that is sequenced to wake up your entire body. You’ll move and stretch slowly and are encouraged to take the time to explore parts of the body that are feeling a little stiff from sitting all day.

Then the routine moves on to a dynamic and invigorating workout moving through routines focused on your upper body targeting the triceps, biceps, back and shoulders, core, lower body targeting the glutes, quadriceps, adductors, and calves, and more core. These exercises include using light handheld weights, and sometimes a yoga block or pilates ball.

Expect small movements with high-repetition in every exercise routine (which explains the light handheld weights).

A Barre at Peak class ends with a cooling down stretch where you’ll go through a series of stretches to support muscle recovery.

I’m new to any type of fitness – is this for me?

Barre at Peak classes are suitable for anybody and every body – no gender or age restrictions here. Variations are offered throughout the class to ensure levelled options for beginners and seasoned practitioners. We encourage everyone to meet and honour themselves where they find themselves at.

What to wear to a barre class?

Any activewear makes great attire for a Barre at Peak class! Something stretchy like leggings or runner shorts with leggings attached (so it maintains your modesty in your nether regions), along with a supportive sports bra, tank top are all appropriate items to wear.

Barre at Peak runs every Thursday at 6:15 to 7:00pm. Book a class today.
